Florida

Michigan and Florida have only played four times all-time, but none of the matchups took place on campus. Three of the meetings came in the NCAA Tournament, with Michigan winning all three.

The Wolverines knocked the Gators out of the second round in1988 and 2019 and advanced to the Final Four after Florida in 2013. The Gators beat the Wolverines in Miami in 1998. I think it would be interesting to see the two matchups in Ann Arbor and Gainesville for a change.

Florida had a top-five basketball in the last ten years of Billy Donovan’s tenure. They have not been as successful since Donovan went to the NBA. However, they are still usually an NCAA tournament team, making the Big Dance in the last four years it was held. Adding Florida to the nonconference schedule would be another quality opponent added to Michigan’s resume.

Additionally, there is a bit of bad blood that was brewing between the programs. On the football field, Michigan has played Florida five times (4-1 record) in the last 20 years, four bowl games, and the 2017 Advocare Classic. Those games have gotten a bit chippy at times. There is not much love lost in basketball either and I am sure the Gators would love another chance to play Michigan given the recent NCAA tournament history.

The Crisler Center can be a great atmosphere when the Wolverines are rolling and the O Dome is a raucous environment as well. Its student section is nicknamed the Rowdy Reptiles. A home-and-home would be a great addition to this series.
