Michigan football has some work to do on its 2022 recruiting class and here’s a stock report with some top targets as we head into August.

As we move into August and another dead period, the Michigan football program is sort of picking itself up off the mat after a rough finish to July.

There were some good moments as well such as the commitments of Myles Pollard and Mario Eugenio, but the loss of Jeremy Patton to Baylor on the final weekend was a bummer. And about that same time, Dillon Bell started trending to Georgia. He’s expected to commit to UGA this week.

But as Penn State and Michigan State, two Big Ten East rivals have closed on several commitments, the Wolverines haven’t landed any since July 12th and following the news of Alabama jumping in the mix with an offer to Deone Walker, their wait could continue.

Right now, following the decommitment of Davtone Miles last week, Michigan football has 15 verbal commitments for 2022 with four players ranked in the four-star range and the rest are three-star prospects. U-M is ranked 13th according to the 247 sports team rankings.

Now, here’s a look at where Michigan stands with some key targets heading into August.

5-star DT Walter Nolen (Stock down)

Michigan football has been seen as a legitimate contender for five-star defensive tackle Walter Nolen, ranked third overall in 2022 by the 247 sports composite rankings, yet the Wolverines are losing momentum.

Nolen is going to stay in Tennessee for his senior year of high school football and that has given the Vols a slight edge, as well as a run of expert picks from Rivals. However, over the weekend, Nolen visited Texas A&M, a team that didn’t even make his top five.

It was hard to see Michigan winning this recruitment over teams like Bama, Florida, and Georiga. And now that A&M and Tennessee have also made a move, it feels like the Wolverines might be on the backburner.
