Michigan football’s wide receiver board was expanded on Friday which might have something to do with a crystal ball flip somewhere else.

The Michigan football program has a pair of wide receiver commitments in the 2022 recruiting class, but the Wolverines are aiming for more.

It was thought that Dillon Bell could be the next wide receiver to join the mix. He visited Michigan football earlier this summer and the Wolverines starting trending with crystal ball projections soon after the visit.

However, Bell, who is from Texas, caught the attention of Auburn, Texas A&M, and Georgia, which all offered around the same time. Those programs were part of his top eight but Michigan football still felt like the leader.

At least until this weekend.

Bell took an unofficial visit to Georgia over the weekend and the Bulldogs started to pick up momentum and now, Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports, a national analyst who dropped the confidence in his Michigan crystal ball, has now flipped it over to Georgia.

It’s likely that more crystal ball flips are coming and it sounds like Bell might be close to making a decision. Some will roll their eyes because Bell is a three-star recruit but his offer list is that of a four-star recruit and he would have been a nice addition.

It’s not over yet. But when the crystal ball starts trending the other way, it’s never a good sign.

Another sign that Michigan football doesn’t like where it stands with Bell is the fact that the Wolverines extended a new receiver offer in 2022 on Friday to three-star Cody Hagen, a kid out of Utah who is ranked 370th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings.

247 sports ranks him as a four-star prospect in their own rankings and lists him as the 39th-best wideout in the 2022 class. He’s 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, and recently released a top four that included Utah, USC, BYU, and Stanford with the Cardinal being the current crystal ball leader.

Last season, playing with USC QB commitment Jaxson Dart, Hagen had 55 receptions for 1,184 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also has a pretty open recruitment and with Stanford being a factor, Michigan’s academics could be appealing.

The next step will be getting him on campus for a visit but Hagen is another name to watch at wide receiver especially as Bell starts trending in the wrong direction.
