Daxton Hill needs to have a breakout season for Michigan football in 2021 and moving him to corner could be a way to do that.

If you watched Michigan football last season, you know that corner was not a strength of the team. Ambry Thomas opted out before last season and he would have been Michigan’s No.1 corner. He is now off to the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers.

Vincent Gray struggled and appeared to lose his confidence. Gemon Green went through some growing pains early on, but started to show flashes as the season progressed. I would project him as Michigan’s No.1 corner entering the season.

However, Michigan football could still stand to get better at corner.

Michigan has not added a corner from the transfer portal and Ja’Den McBurrows was the only corner in the 2021 recruiting class. Instead Michigan will be relying on internal improvements, a new defensive coordinator, and a new scheme.

Michigan football does have some young talent at corner. Andre Seldon and Darion Green-Warren were four-stars. DJ Turner was a three-star but had the offer list of a five-star and I have always been bullish on his abilities.

There is another option Michigan could consider: Daxton Hill.

Hill was one of the few bright spots on the Michigan defense last season. This year, he has an argument as Michigan’s best player along with Aidan Hutchinson.

Hill is good enough to contend for the Thorpe Award this year. His versatility is part of what makes him a special talent. The Wolverines have already experimented with moving Hill around in the secondary, splitting time at safety and nickel. Here is why he should move to corner.
