Michigan Football: 4 recruits Wolverines could realistically flip in 2022
Pair of Kentucky commitments
When Maurice Linguist left the Michigan football staff to take the head coaching job at Buffalo, it could have been a major blow to Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.
Yet, Harbaugh made a great hire in Steve Clinkscale, a former Kentucky coach who had done an outstanding job of recruiting the Midwest and the state of Michigan.
He was also huge in landing a pair of 2022 commitments for the Wildcats — one from the state of Michigan in three-star defensive back Jeremiah Caldwell. Caldwell is from Belleville and is 6-foot-2, 177 pounds.
The Wolverines could have a strong chance of landing him if they make a push but with Myles Pollard just joining the class at cornerback with Johnson and Kody Jones, it doesn’t seem like there is a desperate need.
Safety is a bit of a different issue and according to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider (subscription required), the Wolverines believe Andre Stewart, another three-star DB committed to Kentucky can play safety, so he could be another target. He’s close to Clink and here’s what Holland wrote about him:
"“Clinkscale just extended a scholarship a couple of weeks ago, so it’s still early, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Michigan gets Stewart on campus for a visit in the future. If the Wolverines make a concerted effort, he’s definitely a flippable prospect.”"
As with Shepard, if he takes a visit then it could be game on.
