Donovan Edwards

Donovan Edwards was one of the biggest additions to Michigan football’s 2021 recruiting class and he’s one of the cornerstones that have the ability to turn this program around.

Rated as a five-star by 247 sports and a four-star in the 247 sports composite rankings, Edwards could be the star Michigan football has needed at running back.

Forget the quarterback position, when is the last time Michigan had a running back selected in the early rounds of the draft? Edwards could change that and with his dual-threat ability, it’s hard not to be reminded of former Wolverine great Chris Perry.

The thing that might hold Edwards back this year is a strong depth chart. Hassan Haskins deserves to get his fair share of carries this season and Blake Corum needs touches too. But Edwards is a different kind of talent and he needs to have a role from day one.

This Michigan offense should be built around the running backs and hopefully, offensive coordinator Josh Gattis and the staff won’t waste the talent in the room as they did in 2020.
