Michigan Basketball: Breaking down Wolverines with DeVante Jones
By Brock Heilig
Power Forward
Michigan basketball fans have long been waiting on a breakout season from the now senior Brandon Johns. Although he hasn’t excelled like many have hoped, the 6-foot-8 forward has plenty of potential, and likely just needs to be given a chance.
This year can be Brandon Johns’ chance. Michigan does bring in five-star forward Moussa Diabate, but I believe Juwan Howard will opt to go with Johns at the power forward position for the majority of the season with Diabate getting a heavy dose of minutes off the bench. Johns is just too experienced to be coming off the bench, but Diabate is too talented not to play. Coach Howard will have quite the task in divvying up the minutes between Johns and Diabate. Expect sophomore Terrance Williams to record a good amount of minutes at the “4” as well too.
Center
Although second team all-American Hunter Dickinson hasn’t officially announced his return to Ann Arbor, it is almost a done deal according to many sources.
Should Dickinson return, he will undoubtedly be the team’s starting center. After a dominant freshman season, Dickinson will look to build on that success, and he will likely be a preseason candidate for Big Ten player of the year.
If Dickinson keeps his name in the NBA Draft, expect Moussa Diabate to get most of the minutes at center with Brandon Johns possibly playing an undersized “5”.
