Michigan Football: 5 potential commitments for Wolverines in July
4-star DB Dillon Tatum
While five-star defensive tackle Walter Nolen is the top recruit on the board for Michigan football right now in the 2022 class, Dillon Tatum is another priority and he could decide this month.
To be fair, Michigan football fans have been waiting for Tatum to make a decision since April. Back then, he said he was waiting for a commitment video to announce his decision, indicating that one had been made.
Yet, in a recent interview with Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider, Tatum said he hadn’t decided between Michigan and Michigan State. It’s a subtle change but it’s a big one.
It’s my belief that Tatum was going to commit to Michigan. The staff turnover with Maurice Linguist seemed to raise some doubt and that coupled with the great job Michigan State has done, selling Tatum as the cornerstone of its class, has made it a tough call.
Tatum said he wanted to decide before the fall and it feels like there is a good chance he pulls the trigger in July. I don’t know if he’ll choose Michigan or Michigan State but outside of Webb dropping his confidence from eight to six on his crystal ball, no experts have changed their picks.
There still seems to be confidence on the Michigan side of things, mostly, it seems due to Ronald Bellamy and on the fan side, U-M has won these kinds of recruitments recently with Andrel Anthony and Rayshaun Benny being two examples.
So until Tatum actually goes to the dark side, I don’t think many people believe it will happen. However, in my own personal opinion, it’s no better than a 50-50 proposition.
