Michigan football made the top 10 for elite wide receiver Carnell Tate in 2023, plus a couple of updates on the 2022 recruiting class.

While most of the recruiting focus is on the class of 2022 and rightfully so, the battles are underway for many of the top targets in 2023 and one of those is wide receiver, Carnell Tate.

Tate is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound wideout from Chicago and in the class of 2023, he’s currently ranked 42nd overall, sixth among wide receivers, and ninth in the state of Illinois.

He’s been a top target for Michigan football for quite some time and even though Ohio State and Notre Dame are the crystal ball leaders right now, the Wolverines recently got Tate on campus for a visit and on Wednesday, U-M made his top 10 list.

Ole Miss, Texas, LSU, Florida State, Penn State, Tennessee, and Illinois joined Notre Dame, Ohio State, and the Wolverines on the list.

Bill Kurelic who covers Ohio State for 247 sports, wrote this about Tate prior to his visit to Notre Dame over the weekend.

"“I would go with Ohio State over Notre Dame. Tate has made two visits to each school. He is back at Notre Dame for look No. 3 at the Fighting Irish. Tate recently told me he is getting closer to a decision. I have the Buckeyes as the pick going into the third Notre Dame visit.”"

There haven’t been any new crystal ball predictions following Tate’s visit to Notre Dame but the Irish have a ton of momentum on the trail right now.

Michigan is starting to build some in the 2022 class and even though Tate put Michigan in his top 10 if he decides soon, I don’t feel optimistic about U-M’s chances.

Linebacker puts Michigan football in his top five

The Wolverines also made the top five this week for three-star linebacker in 2022 Jeremy Patton. At 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, Patton is ranked No. 591 overall and 84th in the state of Texas.

However, he’s been gaining momentum in his recruitment and the Wolverines have been making a push. They hosted Patton this month, but he’s been trending with crystal ball projections to Texas, and unless Michigan can beat out the in-state Longhorns, Patton is sticking close to home.

Another 2022 target, Jordan Phillips, a defensive tackle, has started trending with predictions to Tennessee. The 6-foot-2, 300-pounder is from Florida and while he was projected to Michigan at one time, the Wolverines are falling out of contention.

Phillips has picked up two crystal ball projections to Tennessee and it looks like that’s where the big defensive lineman will end up.
