Michigan Football: Florida aims to flip 4-star commit of Wolverines
Michigan football will have to fend off the Florida Gators for the commitment of Kody Jones, a four-star commit who the Gators offered on Wednesday.
In the 2022 recruiting class, Michigan football is already fending off an attempt to flip one of its cornerback commitments, and on Wednesday, Florida started trying to flip another.
We all know about the pursuit of five-star cornerback Will Johnson by USC. Michigan football has done well to keep Johnson in the mix and another solid land in the secondary this cycle has been Kody Jones, a four-star defensive back from Tennessee.
Jones originally came on board soon after former cornerbacks coach Maurice Linguist was hired, but even after Linguist left for Buffalo to be the head coach, Jones has stayed solid in his commitment. And just because Florida offered, doesn’t mean that will change.

But, even though Jones has been saying he’s 100-percent committed, he did take a visit to Illinois, which makes you think he would probably take a visit to Florida and that’s where things could get a little more worrisome for the Wolverines, particularly with Jones’ connection to Walter Nolen.
Remember, Florida is a top contender for Nolen. He took a visit there and now, the Gators could try to land both, which was something the Wolverines were selling before.
The visit would be the next thing to watch out for, until then, I wouldn’t panic too much. But if Nolen does go to Florida, it could make it that much tougher for Michigan to hold Jones’ commitment.
Kenneth Grant emerging as a top DT target
One thing Michigan football fans have to like about the new coaching staff on defense is that they are targeting big bodies in the middle of the defense.
One criticism of Don Brown was that the Wolverines were too light upfront and didn’t target enough 300 pounders. That’s not an issue with the current staff. Davonte Miles is a 300-pounder, so is Deone Walker, a top 2022 D-line target trending with predictions to U-M.
Another name to know is Kenneth Grant, another 300-pound defensive tackle. He’s 6-foot-5, 340 pounds and while he’s ranked as just a three-star prospect by 247 sports out of Indiana and is not ranked in the composite rankings for 2022, his recruitment has taken off.
Not only has Michigan football jumped into the mix, so did Ohio State. Wisconsin is also a top contender, making Grant a top priority. He recently visited Ann Arbor and plans to do so again in the fall according to EJ Holland of Rivals.
So he won’t be making a decision anytime soon, but he’s another massive body and one that Michigan football would love to have in its 2022 class.
