Michigan Football: Breaking down commitment of Alessandro Lorenzetti
Michigan football continued its surge on the recruiting trail with the addition of three-star offensive tackle Alessandro Lorenzetti Friday night.
It’s been a whirlwind week for Michigan football recruiting and it wrapped up Friday night with the fifth commitment for the Wolverines in one week’s time.
The first pledges came last Saturday when CJ Stokes and Aaron Alexander committed to Michigan football as part of “Victors Weekend.”
Then came the pledge of four-star quarterback Jayden Denegal in the middle of the week, only to have it capped off by the addition of three-star edge rusher Kevonte Henry, as well as most recently three-star offensive lineman Alessandro Lorenzetti.
Lorenzetti committed to Michigan football later on Friday evening, as the Wolverines beat out other finalists Michigan State and Penn State for his commitment.
What Michigan football is getting in Lorenzetti
Yes, Lorenzeitt is a three-star recruit and four of the five guys committed in the past week are ranked in the three-star range. However, some of these guys are due for a jump in the rankings and the 6-foot-6 offensive tackle from Canada, Lorenzetti, might be one of them.

Lorenzetti is currently unranked in the 247 sports composite rankings and is ranked as the 94th-best offensive tackle in the 2022 class according to 247 sports own set of rankings.
However, that’s going to change. Michigan State was the crystal ball leader at one time and Michigan football changed the recruitment when it offered. There was also interest from the Big 12 and ACC schools for the No. 2 player now in Connecticut.
Not every commit is going to be a four-star recruit. The blue-chip ratio says that you want to have more than 50 percent of your recruits be four or five-star prospects. Right now, Michigan is at 5/12 in the 2022 class but there’s a long way to go.
Plus, Michigan is really good at its evaluations. Nate Johnson is a great example. He was in the 900s when Michigan offered and now as a Utah commit, he’s cracked the top 600.
I put Lorenzetti right there with Alexander as bonafide sleepers in this class. Stokes and Henry are guys that have upside as mid-range three-star commits, but Lorenzetti and Alexander will definitely outplay their ranking and will be rated higher once they sign.
The new staff is going a great job on the recruiting trail and the focus now should be keeping the momentum going.
