Michigan Football: Alternate uniforms on the way for Wolverines?
By Alex Hinton
Michigan football showed off some different uniform combinations recently, which could mean we’ll see some new looks on the field this fall.
The month of June has seen plenty of recruits make their way to Ann Arbor. That has resulted in success on the recruiting trail in the form of commitments and crystal balls. However, it has also hinted at the possibility of new uniforms.

In my opinion, Michigan football’s home uniform combination of the winged helmet, blue jerseys, and maize pants is one of the best in the country. However, the all-white look on the road leaves a bit to be desired. Perhaps it’s a product of growing up and seeing the Wolverines in maize pants on the road, but I think the all-white look is a bit plain.

An interesting wrinkle to Michigan’s uniform combinations would be the addition of blue pants. Michigan football has only worn blue pants once for a night game against Penn State in 2014.
However, the Wolverines have never worn blue pants on the road. I think blue pants should be a regular addition to Michigan’s uniforms.
An all-blue look with blue jerseys and blue pants would be a favorite of mine. I think it would great for night home games, potentially starting week 2 against Washington. I would also love to see Michigan football wear blue pants on the road, but in rotation with the maize pants.
Perhaps we might even see a combination of maize jerseys and pants. I would like this look, although not as much as the others already mentioned above. It gives off a bit of a West Virginia vibe to me. Michigan has worn maize jerseys once against Florida in the 2017 Advocare Classic.
There will be some Michigan fans who say “Who cares about uniforms? I want wins”. While it is true that winning games is the end goal, recruits care about uniforms as you can see tweets above from Walter Nolen, Myles Pollard, and Will Johnson.
It’s cool to see your team add fresh, new looks to their potential uniform combinations. Additionally, Michigan football signed on with Jordan Brand to be innovative.
I would be all for Michigan expanding its uniform combinations and I think most Wolverine fans would agree. However, whatever Michigan decides to do with its uniforms, I hope it does not touch its iconic winged helmet.
