Michigan Football: Wolverines impress elite TE, more on big weekend
Michigan football wowed elite tight end, Oscar Delp, on his recent visit, plus a new visitor is scheduled to be in Ann Arbor this weekend.
The recruitment of 2022 tight end Oscar Delp has blown up and it was something that Michigan football likely foresaw when it was the first team that entered the mix with a scholarship offer.
The fact that the Wolverines offered Delp first is still a selling point to the 6-foot-5, 220-pound prospect from West Forsyth, Georgia. Michigan football even got some early crystal ball projections for Delp before in-state Georgia became more of the favorite.
The Bulldogs are the crystal ball leader right now with Delp, who is ranked 85th overall in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and third among tight ends.
However, that could change and it seems like Michigan is coming more into focus, especially after impressing Delp on his recent visit. Here’s part of what Delp told Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider about it:
"“(The visit) definitely moved (Michigan) up. It was my first time really looking at a school up north. It’s definitely different from all the SEC schools. It felt like I was in a Harry Potter movie walking around that campus. It was awesome! Every school’s got special things about it, but it was definitely different just in general up there.”"
Delp visited Alabama, Florida, and Georgia before Michigan, and will visit South Carolina next. Georgia might still be the favorite, but the Wolverines are gaining ground. It’s still going to be a tough pull, but the staff did a great job here and there is more reason for optimism than before.
Top-100 defender in 2022 to visit this weekend
“Victors Weekend” is loaded with visitors such as Will Johnson, Dillon Tatum, Myles Pollard, and Walter Nolen, just to name a few. But there will be another elite defender visiting Ann Arbor and that’s Ta’Mere Robinson, a safety/linebacker out of Pittsburgh.
Robinson is 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, and is ranked 62nd overall in the 2022 class, as well as fourth among linebackers according to the 247 sports composite rankings. Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider reported the visit.
Penn State, Notre Dame, Kentucky, and Tennessee are among the top programs in the mix, but Michigan football was among his first 10 offers and no favorite has emerged at this point.
The Wolverines don’t have a commitment at linebacker or safety in the 2022 class, although that could change soon with Aaron Alexander, Robinson is another to watch, possibly at both spots.
