Michigan Football: Wolverines to host 5-star defensive back
Michigan football didn’t make the top six list of five-star safety Keon Sabb but he’s now taking an official visit to Ann Arbor.
Earlier in the 2022 recruiting cycle, it seemed like Michigan football was one of the favorites for five-star safety Keon Sabb.
Sabb is ranked as the No. 22 overall prospect in the 247 sports composite rankings and is the No. 2 overall athlete at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds.
He was formerly from New Jersey and is now playing at the IMG Academy, which led schools like Clemson, Georgia, and others to gain momentum in this recruitment to the point that U-M didn’t make the top six.
However, things have started to shift and 247 sports reported that Sabb is going to take a visit and here’s what Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider wrote on Thursday:
"“Sabb was offered by the former Michigan defensive staff months ago and appeared to have very high interest in the Wolverines early on. However, a move to IMG Academy and continued pursuits from programs like Clemson, Texas A&M, and Georgia put the Wolverines on a temporary backburner. This visit appears to put Michigan at least in the conversation for Sabb once again.”"
Clemson took another highly-ranked in Sherrod Covil safety also this week and that could impact things for the Tigers with Sabb.

Clemson is the only school to have a crystal ball projection but it’s at a low confidence level at three.
It’s hard to think one safety commitment would make a huge difference for Sabb who is ranked as the No. 7 recruit overall in 2022 by 247 sports own rankings.
Sabb is also going to be taking an official visit to Michigan, not an unofficial visit so it appears the Wolverines have made some real progress.
The five-star recruit has also taken visits to Penn State and Clemson this month, with trips to Georgia and Texas A&M also on the schedule.
Sabb has a first-round projection from 247 sports in the future and if Michigan could find a way to land him in the 2022 class, it would be a gamechanger.
It’s not going to be easy, but the visit will be telling and at least the Wolverines have a chance now, which is something they couldn’t say not long ago.
