Michigan Football: More expert picks and an intriguing new visitor
Michigan football picked up new expert predictions for the 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes, as well as a new top target emerging at safety.
If there is one Michigan football recruit who is trending towards a commitment, it’s three-star linebacker, Aaron Alexander.
The three-star linebacker according to 247 sports, was offered by Michigan football last weekend and soon after, started receiving crystal ball predictions to the Wolverines.
Now, EJ Holland of Rivals is hopping on board with a Futurecast projection of Alexander to the Wolverines. He also reported (subscription required) that a decision could be coming soon and Alexander is a take by the staff.
That Alexander would be taken by the staff was pretty obvious since mutliple recruiting experts from 247 sports and now Rivals are projecting Alexander to U-M.
And while some might wonder why, since he’s currently unranked by Rivals, Holland posted some videos of Alexander in pass coverage, which is a good indication why. He’s a 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker who can cover and could have some position versatility.
It seemed like Dillon Tatum could be Michigan football’s next commitment but Michigan State has been gaining ground, so who knows. We know Beau Atkinson is going to choose North Carolina today, so it’s possible that Alexander could be the first pledge of the summer.
Holland also got to see 2023 West Bloomfield wide receiver Semaj Morgan, who was also offered by Michigan football last weekend.
Morgan is 5-foot-10, 181 pounds and has offers from Michigan State, and also West Virginia, as well as Ole Miss. But there are strong ties, obviously, between West Bloomfield and Ann Arbor and Holland is already projecting Morgan to the Wolverines in 2023.
New top target at safety in 2022?
Whether or not Michigan lands Tatum, a four-star safety, the Wolverines are going to need more than one and another target that’s emerging is D’Arco Perkins-McAllister.
The four-star safety ranked 297th overall in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings, is from Nashville, and after receiving an offer in late April, is going to take an official visit to Ann Arbor this weekend.
The addition of Steve Clinkscale has certainly helped. He recruited Perkins-McAllister at Kentucky and now is ramping up the pressure at Michigan.
"“I just really want to check out Michigan because, I mean, my man Clink went there from Kentucky, so I was still sticking with him,” Perkins-McAllister told 247 sports. “So I was like, I’m going to just try it out.”"
Perkins-McAllister has one crystal ball prediction right now to Tennessee. However, he hasn’t taken an official visit yet to the Vols, although it does appear to be in the works. He also visited Florida, TCU and is set for a visit to South Carolina.
The fact that Michigan got him on campus for an official visit is huge and it seems like there is an opportunity in this recruitment.
