Sometimes, being a Michigan fan can be very hot and cold. There are years that our sports teams are very good, and there are years that our sports teams are bad.

Sometimes though, in the midst of the negatives, we need to look back at the positives. We need to be appreciative of various iconic sports moments that will be remembered forever.

In the last 10 years, there have been quite a few really great moments. From Michigan’s comeback against Notre Dame in football in 2011 to Trey Burke’s game-tying shot against Kansas in the Sweet 16 in 2013, we, as Michigan fans, despite our fair share of heartbreaks, have also been blessed with some truly great moments.

In the dog days of summer, when there isn’t really much going on in the sports world (even more exaggerated this year because of COVID), sometimes we need to just reminisce on past successes and seasons.

If you ever have a friend whose rival team is Michigan or tries to brag about their team beating us, internally, just count to 10 slowly, and think about all the good moments over the last decade.

As mentioned, there have been many iconic Michigan sports moments over the last decade. Excluding Michigan football and basketball, U-M softball had an amazing season in 2015 and finished runner-up that year.

Michigan baseball made it all the way to the championship game in 2019. Michigan women’s gymnastics just captured their first-ever national championship a few weeks ago.

My favorite moment though was that 2011 Notre Dame night game. That was our first-ever night game at home, and the atmosphere was insane. I didn’t go to the game, but I could feel the energy through my tv screen. There is nothing, I mean, NOTHING like a Michigan football game at night.

When Denard Robinson threw that back-shoulder fade for a touchdown to Roy Roundtree to finish the comeback, the moment was truly amazing. It got so loud in that stadium that night. I don’t think I’ve ever heard the Big House as loud as that night since.

Yes, there have been other amazing Michigan moments that have been more consequential, like the Burke shot for an Elite Eight berth for example, but that whole 2011 season was the most fun I had in a long time with the football team.

Michigan football went 11-2 that year, beat OSU, and won the Sugar Bowl. I know Brady Hoke didn’t win a lot of games at Michigan, but that one year was great. The only season that’s even come remotely close to that level was the 2016 season.

Next. Michigan's top 10 bowl wins. dark

So, U-M fans, it’s ok to be happy and reminisce over some of the best moments of the decade, because there’s plenty to choose from. We are in summer, so now is as good a time as any.
