Michigan football hosted Dillon Tatum, Tackett Curtis, and others on visits, as well as some updates on other top targets.

One of the most important recruits Michigan football had on campus this week was 2022 in-state target Dillon Tatum.

Tatum is out of West Bloomfield and has long been one of the Wolverines top targets in the 2022 recruiting class. He started out being recruited as a running back but is now being looked at as a safety.

His former high school head coach, Ron Bellamy is now the safeties coach for Michigan, so U-M has an edge there but Michigan State has made a strong push recently.

However, Tatum seemed to really enjoy his time in Ann Arbor, saying that the visit to Michigan was “One of a kind.”

With all his connections to U-M, the Wolverines still feel like they have a slight edge and this is one recruitment they really need to win.

In terms of another 2022 recruit, Jordan Phillips got an offer from Georgia this week that seems to have dramatically changed things. He was trending with crystal ball projections to Michigan, but now he’s going to visit Georgia this summer and no one else until the fall according to 247 sports (subscription required).

Phillips is ranked 604th nationally according to the 247 sports composite rankings. But the D-line prospect is poised for a bump and it’s a shame to see Georgia gaining traction.

Elite 2023 LB takes first visit to Michigan

Looking ahead to the 2023 recruiting class, Michigan football had an elite 2023 linebacker on campus earlier this week, then hosted another, Tackett Curtis on Friday.

Curtis is ranked 69th overall in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and the 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker out of Louisiana actually made Ann Arbor his first visit.

It’s an unofficial visit but it’s still the first one in this recruitment for Curtis, who has been developing a strong relationship with George Helow and Mike Macdonald. Here’s what he told the Michigan Insider:

"“They were telling me a little bit about themselves and what they have to offer! I love their program and staff! I think that they could really develop me into a good player! Coach McDonald mentioned how he coached Patrick Queen and how I relate to him in my game!”"

Jeff Curtis, the father of Tackett, posted on Twitter about how well the visit went and gave great compliments to the staff.

Curtis has no crystal ball projections at this time. He had 92 tackles and four interceptions last season.
