Michigan Basketball: New possible offers in 2022 class
Could Michigan basketball be on the verge of some new offers in 2022? Plus, another top target could be taking a visit to Ann Arbor.
Michigan basketball coach Juwan Howard has expanded the recruiting board in 2022 recently and it could happen again relatively soon.
According to tweets, Michigan has been in contact with multiple 2022 recruits who don’t yet have offers from the Wolverines.
One such prospect is 6-foot-7 forward Alex Karaban, who is out of New Hampton, New Hampshire, and is ranked 71st overall in 2022.
According to a post on Twitter by Andrew Slater, the director of scouting Pro Insight, the Wolverines are one of the programs recruiting him hardest, even though he doesn’t have a U-M offer.
Karaban has been blowing up with offers recently and one from Michigan could be on the horizon. Here’s what 247 sports had to say about his play at a recent tournament:
"“Alex Karaban came out this weekend and displayed why high majors are in pursuit. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound forward out of New Hampton (N.H.) School is skilled, tough and has a good feel and IQ for the game. He has a face-up game to him, can make shots out to three, finishes through contact, and is a good passer for the position.”"
Just in the month of May, LSU, Iowa, Oklahoma State, and UConn have each offered. He’s set to take unofficial visits to UConn and Providence in the Northeast.
Karaban is another with 3/4 potential. He’s a pretty talented shooter and also shows the ability to score inside.
Michigan recruit another 5-star
Nick Smith is another name Michigan basketball fans might need to get familiar with. He’s a five-star recruit in 2022 and the 6-foot-4 guard is ranked 25th in the 247 sports composite rankings.
The Wolverines haven’t made an offer at this point, but Smith told Tipton Edits that U-M was among the teams recruiting him the hardest.
Smith, who is out of Arkansas, already has four visits set up and a crystal ball prediction to Kentucky. Yet, lots of recruits are adding unofficial visits too, so U-M could be in the mix if the Wolverines decide to offer.
Dereck Lively is another recent 2022 recruit offered by Michigan. He told 247 sports he was going to take a visit to North Carolina, and also that the Wolverines could get a visit.
Right now, I wouldn’t put any of those guys near the top of the board, but summer is fast approaching and the end of the dead period, so it’s smart to have some other options.
