Ayodele Adeoye, LB Texas

The Wolverines have been interested in multiple linebackers in the portal. Lance Dixon, the former Penn State player from West Bloomfield, Michigan, was one target, but he wound up at West Virginia.

Still, Michigan football could use more depth at linebacker. Michael Barrett and Josh Ross are slated to start inside for new defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, and the best option behind them might be four-star freshman Junior Colson.

Colson is one of my favorite players in the 2021 class and he’s Michigan’s top-ranked defender. He’s an outstanding athlete and I expect him to make an impact next season. But it’s still a big step up from high school to the Big Ten and another veteran presence would help.

Remember, Barrett was a running back, safety, and viper, before making this move to inside linebacker. The high school quarterback has never played here before, although he did play a linebacker-type role as the viper last season.

With all that said, Ayodele Adeoye would make a lot of sense.

Adeoye only played a couple of games for Texas last season but he’s listed at 6-foot-1, 251 pounds, and back in 2019, he had 45 tackles, three tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and an interception as a freshman.

He entered the portal this offseason and there hasn’t been much movement. He’s out of St. Louis and with the need U-M has at linebacker, it should extend an offer to Adeoye, who has three-down potential with his coverage ability.
