Michigan Football: 3 thoughts on adding transfer DT Jordan Whittley
Michigan should keep looking
While I like the addition of Whittley and his size is much-needed in the middle of the defense, Michigan football should keep searching the portal for more help on defense.
That includes defensive tackle. Look, Whittley could be a really solid player, but putting all your eggs in his basket could be risky. Landing another defensive tackle from the portal is much easier said than done — they are hot commodities.
But if another one comes along that makes sense, Michigan should jump at the chance. Even if the guy isn’t necessarily a nose tackle, the Wolverines need interior depth and guys who have proven they can hold up against the run.
Outside of that, I’d still like to see the Wolverines look for some help in the secondary. As it stands, they are probably going to roll out the same starters they had last season.
A new scheme should help and internal development will be huge with guys like Daxton Hill, Vincent Gray, and Gemon Green. Plus, a healthy Brad Hawkins would make a major difference.
Still, there’s plenty of talented defensive backs in the portal, and we all know that linebacker is another position that’s a little thin.
Michigan has addressed one need in the portal, but if it has the spots, it should keep pushing for more depth, especially on defense.
