Michigan Basketball: What North Carolina offer means for Seth Trimble
Michigan basketball’s top point guard target for the 2022 recruiting class, Seth Trimble, was offered by North Carolina Wednesday. Here’s what it means.
When Michigan basketball jumped in with an offer to 2022 point guard Seth Trimble, the Wolverines quickly became the favorite in his recruitment.
Multiple crystal ball predictions are projecting a commitment from Trimble to U-M. Leading up to his offer from the Wolverines, he had talked about wanting to get it.
So it was notable when it came down. He also set up an official visit to Ann Arbor soon after that. But now, another elite program has entered the mix and that’s North Carolina, where his brother played college ball, so this recruitment is far from over.
Here’s the latest from 247 sports on North Carolina’s recruitment of Trimble:
"“UNC assistant Brad Frederick is serving as Trimble’s primary recruiter. Over the last few weeks, Davis, Frederick, Trimble, and his family have had multiple conversations, per a source close to Trimble’s family. Those conversations have gone so well, the source said, that Trimble is likely to take an official visit to Carolina in June.”"
For his high school team last season, Trimble averaged more than 23 points a game to go along with five rebounds and three assists per game. He also shot 35 percent from 3-point range and is a pretty talented off-ball shooter.
Trimble has been picking up offers left and right and is one of the fastest-rising prospects in the entire 2022 class. Not only has Michigan offered recently, but also Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Cal, and now North Carolina.
Here’s more from 247 sports on how Trimble has been moving up recruiting boards.
"“A super athletic point guard who is a good shooter,” a source close to the Carolina program told Inside Carolina. “He’s been playing well (recently) and is a great defender.” Trimble’s spring performances over the last month, playing for the Phenom U travel team, has grabbed the attention of coaches and scouts alike.”"
The 6-foot-3 guard is listed as the No. 78 recruit overall in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and is 14th among point guards. Yet, with his strong play recently, that ranking should improve.
Regardless of his ranking, Trimble would be a really great fit for the Wolverines. Whether he’s a true point guard or a combo guard, his shooting and scoring ability will get him on the floor at Michigan.
To me, this is clearly a two-team battle and with Dug McDaniel leaning more towards Florida, it feels like a recruitment the Wolverines really need to win.
