Michigan Football: Where Wolverines stand with elite 2022 tight end
Michigan football is going to get an official visit from elite tight end, Oscar Delp, in the 2022 recruiting class, but what are the Wolverines chances?
At one time, Michigan football had some serious momentum with Oscar Delp, one of the best tight ends in the 2022 recruiting class
Michigan football even received a crystal ball prediction from Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider. However, back then, Delp was still a three-star recruit. Now, he’s ranked as the No. 2 tight end in 2022 according to the 247 sports composite rankings and is ranked 80th overall.
The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder is out of Cummings, Georgia, and is the No. 2 player from the Peach State, which is probably a good reason why he’s been trending with projections to the Bulldogs.
Yet, despite the fact that the experts are predicting a Georgia commitment, Michigan football and a number of others are still in the mix. In fact, Michigan is getting one of Delp’s five official visits.
Florida is also getting a visit, as will South Carolina. Alabama and Clemson are also hot on Delp’s trail too, so this is going to take a near miracle for the Wolverines. But, with Sherrone Moore as the primary recruiter, anything is possible. He did get Daxton Hill out of Oklahoma.
Delp talks Michigan football
The Wolverines already have three-star tight end, Marlin Klein, in the fold for 2022, but according to what Delp told Rivals, U-M is still making a strong push:
"“Right now, I think the schools that are doing the best are probably Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, and Michigan. I have three official visits set right now. I have Georgia the first weekend of June. The second weekend of June I’ll be at Florida. The last weekend of June I’m going to be at South Carolina. We’re going to get to Clemson or Alabama for an unofficial visit.”"
If I had to hazard a guess, Georgia and Florida are the two favorites. The Gators have been selling Delp on playing a Kyle Pitts kind of role, which has to be enticing.
Michigan has a lot to offer and Delp mentioned the academic side of things in his interview with Rivals, as well as a chance to play early. U-M could certainly use a 6-foot-5 pass-catcher like Delp and there’s no doubt he would compete right away for playing time.
But unless the Wolverines or someone else wow him on his visit, it’s hard to see him leaving the state of Georgia.
