Michigan Basketball: Duncan Robinson makes NBA history
Former Michigan basketball player Duncan Robinson continues to shine in the NBA and actually, he made history on Saturday night.
Duncan Robinson is one of the best shooters in the world and on Saturday night, the former Michigan basketball standout made his 500th 3-point shot for the Miami Heat.
It was notable, not only because it was Robinson’s 500th career 3-pointer in the NBA, but he also got there faster than any player in NBA history, taking only 152 games to do so, which is faster than even the great Steph Curry.

For his career, Robinson had made 3.3 3-point attempts per game for the Heat. Duncan is still in just his third NBA season but in his previous two, he ranked in the top five in 3-point field goals made, as well as ranking 4th in percentage last season. Robinson currently ranks 13th all-time with a mark of 42.3 percent.
While Robinson is certainly a volume shooter, he’s efficient too and that’s what makes him so deadly. He’s also gotten incredibly good at hunting his shot over the years. He was always a deadly shooter, with this infusion of confidence — to shoot anywhere, at any time — has made a dramatic difference in his game.
The Heat is cruising towards another NBA playoff berth after reaching the NBA Finals last season and Robinson will be a key part. Duncan scores 13 points a night and has started all 64 games he has played for the Heat this season.
It’s been incredibly fun to watch Robinson blossom with the Heat, who are going to have to show him some money if they are going to keep him in South Beach long term. Hats off.
Moe Wagner makes a good impression
Elsewhere in the association, Moe Wagner had a big night for the Orlando Magic, the team he is finishing the 2020-21 season with.
After going 0-for-7 in 28 minutes and scoring just five points on Friday, Wagner responded in a big way Saturday with 24 points, five rebounds, two blocks and four made 3-pointers against the Grizzlies last night.
That’s exactly the kind of performance Wagner needs down the stretch if he’s going to find himself on an NBA roster next season.
Orlando is a team going through a rebuild again and Wagner is still fairly young, with the ability to play inside and shoot the 3-ball. There at least could be a chance of playing his way onto the roster next year but he will need more games like the one he had Saturday.
