Michigan basketball expanded its recruiting board on Thursday by offering 2022 recruit Tarris Reed, could another offer be on the way to Seth Trimble?

Fans of Michigan basketball recruiting have been waiting and watching to see if Juwan Howard and the Wolverines are going to offer 2022 point guard Seth Trimble.

So far, despite plenty of communication between the staff and Trimble, a top-100 recruit out of Wisconsin, who is starting to see his recruitment blow up, it hasn’t come.

And while there was a new offer to a 2022 recruit on Thursday, it wasn’t to Trimble. Instead, the Wolverines decided to expand their board of big guys, offering Tarris Reed, a four-star power forward out of Saint Louis.

Reed announced the offer on his Twitter account. He’s 6-foot-10 and listed as the No. 95 player overall in the class of 2022 according to the 247 sports composite rankings. He’s also ranked 17th among power forwards.

Reed already has a number of Big Ten offers and Michigan State might actually be the favorite. The Spartans are the only team listed as “warm” on his 247 sports profile, even though he has offers from Indiana, Illinois, Florida, Kansas, and Missouri.

Just like with Trimble, Reed is starting to see his recruitment take off as Kansas and Michigan just offered within the past few weeks.

In terms of what it means, it could be a sign that U-M doesn’t feel great about its chances of landing five-star Jalen Duren, who is the No. 2 overall recruit in 2022 but seems headed for professional ball.

The Wolverines also recently made the top eight for Donovan Clingan, a 7-footer out of Connecticut, but getting him to Michigan instead of UCONN might be a tall order.

And with Hunter Dickinson, Moussa Diabate, and Caleb Houstan, as well as Brandon Johns all possibly exiting the program after next season, U-M is going to need some depth in the frontcourt.

So it wouldn’t be shocking to see the board of big-man recruits expand a little more in the coming months.

Will it expand at point guard to include Trimble? He told 247 sports he’s supposed to hold a Zoom meeting with Michigan basketball in the first week of May and there are rumors that the Wolverines will extend an offer then or at least some point soon. Here’s more of what Trimble said about Michigan:

"“They have just been telling me that the process is going to come and it’s picked up a lot more. They told me and my dad that they really like my game, I’m a prospect that they’re looking at so that means something. We’re just going to see how it goes from here, I have a Zoom call with them Zoom, the first week of May.”"

Trimble was recently offered by Iowa and Illinois. His game is taking off and even though Dug McDaniel seemed like a Michigan lean at point guard and he is visiting in June, if the Wolverines offer Trimble, that could be all she wrote at point guard.

USC and Missouri are the other teams he listed, so if Michigan comes through with an offer, I would expect a commitment to follow, maybe not right away, but in the next few months as he hopes to decide by August or so.
