Michigan Football: At least Xavier Worthy didn’t choose Ohio State

Former Michigan football signee, Xavier Worthy finally announced where he could be playing college football, and as long as he doesn’t enter the transfer portal between now and August, he should be playing for Texas football next fall.

I’m saying that in jest. Obviously, Worthy has found a solid landing place. Steve Sarkisian was someone he was familiar with from his recruitment at Alabama and with Texas, Worthy is sure to be a star.

He tweeted that he doesn’t owe anybody anything and he’s completely right. Worthy and every recruit should make the best decision for them. Worthy’s talent will be missed, there no’s doubt about it.

However, after he started spreading some Ohio State stuff on his social media, you wondered if he might wind up with the Buckeyes, which would make it hurt even worse. At least at Texas, I’ll see him less than I would if he was playing in Columbus.

It wouldn’t shock me if Worthy was a first-round pick in three years. He’s got that kind of ability. And just like Najee Harris, this is one Michigan football fans will remember for a long time.

Tyler Morris/Kaleb Brown update

Tyler Morris committed to the Wolverines earlier this week, which soothed the burn from losing Worthy a little bit as Morris is a top-100 recruit overall and the No. 10 wideout in the class of 2022.

But Morris did move his decision timeline up, in part, due to an injury he suffered and according to EJ Holland of Rivals (subscription required), it’s an ACL/meniscus tear, which isn’t the best news.

The biggest positive about the injury is that it happened early enough that Morris shouldn’t have any issues being available to play for the Wolverines down the road, as in the 2022 season.

Morris might not be ready for the start of his prep season next fall, but the timelines to recover from these injuries is much different than it used to be. Still, it’s not ideal news.

On the Kaleb Brown front, things have been pretty quiet. Part of that is he’s working through his high school season right now.

Brown is ranked 63rd overall by the 247 sports composite rankings for 2022 and is the sixth-ranked wide receiver. He also has multiple crystal ball projections to Michigan but in his latest update on the Morris injury, Holland hints that Ohio State is in the lead right now.

Brown also said this to Holland recently about his recruitment:

"“Recruiting is on hold right now. I’m really focused on the season. When it’s over, recruiting will open right back up. I should be going to Ohio State on June 26. That’s really all I got for official visits. Alabama should be an official visit. Michigan, too. Notre Dame is a possibility.”"

It sounds like Michigan football will get an official visit and closing with Brown will be key. There has been a lot of talk about Morris and Brown coming to U-M together. Morris has pledged and if the Wolverines can land Brown too, it would be massive for the 2022 class.

5 teams Big Ten should add. dark. Next

And it’s possible too, but with Brown at least, the Wolverines have ground to make up.
