Michigan Basketball: Duncan Robinson, D.J. Wilson go off in NBA
Former Michigan basketball players Duncan Robinson and D.J. Wilson went off in the NBA on Saturday night.
There’s no doubt that as far as pure shooters go, there are few better than former Michigan basketball standout Duncan Robinson.
And Robinson went off for another big night for the NBA’s Miami Heat, who notched a critical win over the Chicago Bulls thanks in part to a team-high 23 points from Robinson.
Robinson, of course, scored most of his points from the 3-point line, and in fact, he tied his season-high for 3-point makes with seven. He was 7-for-15 for the night, but what’s even crazier is six of those 3-bombs came in the first half.

While Robinson hasn’t shot the ball quite as well as he did a year ago, he’s still been exceptional from 3-point range, shooting 40 percent for the season and scoring 13.9 points per game. His free-throw percentage has dropped from 91 to 83 but his overall field-goal percentage is at 44 percent.
So Robinson is having another stellar season and even though he was the subject of some trade rumors, he’ll be a key part of the Heat’s playoff push.
Right now, Miami is 32-29, which has them seventh in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. But Miami is a half-game out of sixth place, something that’s significant because the top six teams in each conference avoid the play-in tournament. Robinson and the Heat also trail the red-hot New York Knicks by two games for the No. 4 seed.
D.J. Wilson has a career high
Robinson made his way into the NBA as an undrafted free agent. D.J. Wilson, another former Michigan basketball standout, was a first-round pick of the Bucks.
Yet, it didn’t really work out and Wilson was traded to the Houston Rockets. The Rockets wanted to go younger and Wilson has been getting some playing time and last night, he scored a career-high 25 points.

Wilson’s line was really impressive as he connected on 10-of-17 shots, grabbed eight boards, dished out four assists, and had three steals.
Wilson was getting just over eight minutes a game in 12 outings with the Bucks, but since being traded to Houston, he’s averaged 13.1 minutes in 20 games including a start. He’s scoring 5.7 points, grabbing 3.4 boards, and shooting 33 percent from deep.
The 6-foot-10 Wilson always had a ton of ability and with some strong play down the stretch, he could earn himself more opportunities next season with Houston or someone else.
