Michigan Basketball: 2022 PG Dug McDaniel sets official visit
In the latest development for Michigan basketball recruiting, 2022 point guard target Dug McDaniel is taking an official visit with the Wolverines.
Things are about to pick up in terms of 2022 recruiting for Michigan basketball and according to a report from Chris Balas of The Wolverine.com, it already has.
This June, recruits are finally going to be able to take official visits again as the extended dead period due to the COVID-19 pandemic is being lifted at the end of May.
Obviously, that’s going to be a busy time for both fooball and basketball recruiting and now, according to Balas, we know at least one 2022 recruit who will take an official visit to Michigan and that’s four-star point guard Dug McDaniel.
McDaniel, who is just 5-foot-9, is the No. 80 overall prospect in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings. He’s also listed as the No. 16 point guard, even though 247 sports own rankings have him much higher at 54th overall and 10th among point guards.
Just a few months ago, Michigan basketball was laregly considered the favorite to land McDaniel, who said not long ago, he was also looking to make a decision “soon.”

Soon is always an interesting concept in recruiting because it can mean a number of different things. My guess is that McDaniel probably makes a decision sometime this summer, so this visit is going to be really important.
The elephant in the room when it comes to point guard recruiting in the class of 2022 is four-star guard Seth Trimble, who doesn’t have an a Michigan offer, but is in constant contact with the staff and is being monitored closely.
Trimble is 6-foot-2 and ranked 78th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings. He’s also been picking up lots of offers, including one recently from Illinois.
Things had seemed to cool off between McDaniel and the Wolverines, but this changes that thinking if he’s taking an offical visit in June.
Remember, recruits only get to take five of those and they are key indicators. It feels like Michigan has been the team to beat in this recruitment and as long as McDaniel feels comfortable with his potential role and U-M wants to take him over Trimble, he still feels like a good bet to commit to Michigan’s 2022 class.
