Michigan Basketball: Are Wolverines going to offer Seth Trimble?
Is Michigan basketball going to offer 2022 guard Seth Trimble? Things have been heating up but what does that mean for Dug McDaniel?
When it comes to Michigan basketball and the 2022 recruiting class, there are a couple of questions that come to mind. The first though, is will the Wolverines offer Seth Trimble?
Trimble is a name that has been trending in the 2022 class and he’s picked up a number of offers recently. He’s 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, and listed as the No. 76 recruit overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings.
A slew of Big Ten programs have offered including Illinois, Wisconsin, which is his home state, and Nebraska. Other offers include Iowa State, USC, Arizona State, and Creighton, so he’s a high-major prospect and according to a recent interview on YouTube with Badger Blitz, Trimble is hearing from the Wolverines quite a bit, specifically from Phil Martelli.
Going back a little farther, Trimble said this in an interview with 247 sports about Michigan after he didn’t hear from the Wolverines right away this past summer.
"“I’ve always been a Tar Heel fan so that would be nice but the top school I’d want to hear from is Michigan. I just always loved their playing style and coach Juwan Howard and Kentucky would be one more.”"
Will Michigan basketball offer?
Illinois offered not long ago, so if Michigan wants to make a move with Trimble, it probably needs to throw its hat in the ring sooner rather than later.
Trimble is listed as a point guard, however, he could probably be a combo guard at the next level. He has freakish athleticism and is exceptional at attacking the basket. He’s also an up-tempo player and would fit perfectly in Juwan Howard’s system.
It seems like the bigger question is how will he fit in the 2022 class?
Michigan basketball was thought to be the favorite for four-star point guard Dug McDaniel, who also seemed to be on the verge of making a decision.
Things seem to have a cooled off a touch and maybe it’s because of Trimble. And you have to wonder if the Wolverines would ultimately take both or if they focus on one as their point guard?
The size of the recruiting class in 2022 could play a big role in that, which could be somewhat hard to predict. Brandon Johns, Eli Brooks, and Adrien Nunez are three seniors, so there will at least be three spots, assuming Michigan fills its opening with a transfer this offseason.
But after the 2021-22 season, Hunter Dickinson could consider leaving, along with Caleb Houstan and/or Moussa Diabate. If all three left, Michigan could have as many as six spots.
It seems like the number will be more like 4-5. That’s where things get interesting at guard. McDaniel is lightning quick and would be a great fit. Yet, he is 5-foot-9.
If there is room, it might not have to be a situation where Michigan takes just one, but then again, the Wolverines need to offer Trimble before the discussion of a commitment can get serious.
