The Michigan baseball program travels to Maryland this weekend to face off in a massive four-game road trip against both the Terrapins and Northwestern.

After a pair of come-from-behind wins against Penn State, Michigan baseball comes into this weekend ranked 25th according to D1Baseball.com, 24th by Baseball America, and 16th Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The road trip will start with a Saturday evening and Sunday Morning matchup against the Wildcats.

The Wolverines lead the series all time127-37 going back to 1882. In more recent news, Michigan swept the series last year against Northwestern and has won the previous six consecutively.

The Wildcats have gotten better and currently lead the Big Ten with a .304 batting average. Their pitching hasn’t been as successful, meaning Michigan baseball will need to get on the board early and often keep the momentum in check.

After the Easter morning clash, the Wolverines will imminently turn the page to Maryland and face them in a doubleheader of sorts on Sunday afternoon and then again at 3 PM on Monday. The Terrapins will enter this weekend with a 6-9 record, but that doesn’t necessarily equal out what they could be. On paper, they’re potent, but after that, they haven’t shown much else.

Michigan Baseball has a big road trip this weekend; here’s what to expect

Michigan leads this matchup 18-7 all-time, including seven consecutive wins for the good guys. During the Wolverines three-game sweep in 2019, they averaged double digits in the score column over that timeframe.

The Easter weekend showdown will have a strange twist as Northwestern faces Maryland Friday afternoon and Saturday morning (depending on when you read this), meaning U-M will play its opening game of the weekend against the tired and worn Northwestern team.

As far as who will take the mound this weekend, look for Hajjar, Weston, Denner, and Beers. Blake Beers should have a fun opportunity to notch his first victory of the season as well. All signs point up during this four-game road trip for the Michigan Baseball program, and if they can keep their heads about them they should head home better in the win column.
