Michigan football lost the commitment of four-star athlete Taylor Groves on Monday night. Who are some potential replacements in the secondary?

Newly hired defensive backs coach Maurice Linguist seemed like a recruiting genius just about two months ago, when he and the Michigan football staff were able to land commitments from Taylor Groves as well as Kody Jones within just hours of each other, on February 5th.

However, it came as a surprise on Monday night when Groves tweeted that he would be reopening his recruitment.

Groves is a highly rated safety out of Cross Plains, Tennessee.  He is currently rated as a Top-300 recruit according to 247 Sports, as well as a Top-15 safety in the nation.

This move by Groves could be in part to the commitment of five-star CB Will Johnson, the son of former Wolverine Deon Johnson.  This leaves Johnson and Jones as the only members of the 2022 secondary at the moment.  Although this is a big loss for Michigan football in the secondary, there is one name, in particular, that seems to be a possible replacement.

Jaeden Gould is a 6-foot-2 190-pound cornerback out of Oradell, New Jersey, a state where Michigan has had recruiting success in recent years.  He’s rated as a Top-150 player in the class of 2022 and is the 16th rated cornerback, once again according to 247 Sports.

Gould currently has a top six of Michigan, USC, Clemson, Rutgers, Penn State, and Notre Dame.  Michigan seemed to be the leader earlier on in the recruitment, however, things have grown quiet on the Michigan front in recent weeks.

It will be interesting to see how Maurice Linguist attempts to fill this void in the 2022 class.  I believe Gould is Michigan’s to lose, and it would be a huge get for the Wolverines if they were able to land the Garden State native.
