Michigan Basketball: 3 things to know about Florida State
An elite bench
One thing that you will notice about Florida State that was true about the Seminoles back in 2018, is that Hamilton likes to play a deep bench.
The Wolverines generally play 7-8 guys and during the season, Michigan basketball had six different players average at least 20 minutes per night.
Florida State, on the other hand, only had four players average at least 20 minutes, while a total of nine players are playing an average of at least 14. It’s just a little different philosophy and one thing that makes it so effective is bringing someone like Scottie Barnes off the bench.
Barnes was the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2020 recruiting class and at 6-foot-9, he’s a tremendous ball-screen creator. He averages more than 10 points and four assists per game.
Franz Wagner, who is also listed at 6-foot-9, seems like a natural guy to guard Barnes, but other than that, it’s hard to see how Michigan will match up.
The freshman point guard’s ability to create is a game-changer for the Noles off the bench. Brown is similar for Michigan in that he’s a starter essentially coming off the bench and the team that gets the better contribution from their bench star could have a big edge.
