Michigan Basketball: 3 things to know about Florida State
Michigan basketball will play Florida State on Sunday in the Sweet 16 and here are three things to know about the Seminoles.
It seems like forever ago that Michigan basketball played Florida State in the Elite 8. It was back in 2018 and while these two teams are different, Florida State is still familiar.
Leonard Hamilton is still the head coach and he’s been there forever. He guided the Noles to the ACC tournament championship game and a really solid regular season.
According to Kenpom, Michigan basketball is No. 3 in his efficiency rankings. Florida State is No. 14 so this is going to be a battle.
Michigan is one of the few teams left that ranks in the top 10 in both offense and defense. However, Florida State is ranked in the top 31 in both categories and is one of six teams remaining to boast that high a ranking on both ends of the floor (U-M, Zags, USC, Bama and Houston).
The two teams will meet Sunday for a berth in the Elite 8 and here are three things you need to know about Florida State:
Long and athletic
Sort of like LSU, Florida State is big. The Noles are also athletic. That’s nothing new and that’s been a staple of Leonard’s program. In terms of height, Florida State is one of the few teams that rival Michigan.
Florida State has six players who average at least 4.8 points per game who are at least 6-foot-8 and that includes five-star freshman Scottie Barnes, who comes off the bench.
Florida State also has a 7-foot-1 center in sophomore Balsa Koprivica. He was a top-100 recruit and he’s a pretty solid player, who averages 1.4 blocks per game and has a defensive rating of 96.3 per 100 possessions.
It will be interesting to see how he handles Dickinson, but it’s safe to say that Michigan’s size won’t be an advantage in this matchup.
