Following its win over Ohio State, Michigan basketball is a solid No. 1 seed in every bracket projection available.

There’s not a ton of difference or probably going to be much difference for Michigan basketball when it comes to bracket projections, because as long as the Wolverines don’t fall off the wagon down the stretch, they should be a No.1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

But one thing that is different now than before the Ohio State win is that the Wolverines are now a consensus No. 1 seed according to Bracket Matrix, which means that every available bracket has the Wolverines as a top seed along with Gonzaga and Baylor.

The Wolverines are in that position due to their strong record against top teams this season. They are 6-1 in quadrant 1 games as defined by the NCAA. Here’s their entire record broken down via The Michigan Insider:

Michigans win-loss record by quadrant

Quadrant-1 record: 6-1

Quadrant-2 record: 4-0

Quadrant-3 record: 4-0

Quadrant-4 record: 2-0

The Wolverines have a lot of impressive wins and more chances to add to their resume down the stretch. Michigan will play Iowa and Indiana this week, followed by Illinois and Michigan State next week, meaning three of the next five games are against teams currently projected in the NCAA tournament.

10 Big ten teams overall are currently in the field according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi. He has Ohio State listed as a No. 1 seed along with Michigan, the Zags and Baylor.

Both Illinois and Iowa, teams Michigan will host this week and next, are currently listed as No. 2 seeds, while Indiana is an 11 seed and was one of the last teams in right now.

Wisconsin, Purdue, Rutgers, Illinois and Iowa all join the Wolverines and Buckeyes as teams that are solidly in the tournament with no work to do except for seeding.

Indiana, Minnesota and Maryland are three teams that would be in right now according to Lunardi, but all are among the last teams out and need to finish strong to clinch their spots.

There is a lot that can still happen within the Big Ten conference but from a Michigan perspective, as long as they win even just three or four of their last five games, they should be conference champs and also secure their spot as a No. 1 seed.
