With the 2021 recruiting class now behind us, Michigan football and other programs are fully focused on 2022 and even beyond.

The Wolverines have sent out a number of offers recently to recruits in the 2023 and 2024 classes, however, there was also some news about 2022 as well, with some key targets releasing their latest lists of top teams.

One of those prospects is four-star tight end Oscar Delp, who released a top-13 list on Monday — one that included Michigan football.

Delp has been moving up in the rankings. When he was offered by the Wolverines, he was a three-star prospect but now the kid out Cumming, Georgia is ranked as the No. 10 tight end in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and 236th overall.

The list of 13 schools is probably a bit long. It’s more likely he could trim that down, yet even if it was down to five or three teams, it feels like Michigan would make the cut.

U-M actually owns a majority of Delp’s crystal ball projections right now with 247 sports. Georgia is the other team with a crystal ball and the Bulldogs are another finalist.

As the in-state program, Georgia could be the biggest threat. Georgia, along with Michigan is listed as “warm” on his 247 sports profile, so it appears that the Bulldogs are very engaged.

At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds with a 40 time of 4.66, which was timed over a year ago, some view Delp as a receiver too. He’s an exceptional pass catcher and he would be an exciting addition to the Wolverines offense and would give J.J. McCarthy another weapon down the road.

However, Texas also just offered and the Longhorns have been a huge player on the recruiting trail lately, so it’s not unlikely that another team works its way into the mix.

4-star DB puts Michigan in his top three

Michigan football also made the top three for a four-star defensive back in 2022 and that’s Bobby Taylor, a cornerback out of Katy, Texas.

Taylor is 6-foot-1, 180 pounds and is ranked as the No. 25 cornerback recruit in the 2022 class, as well as the 32nd-best player in the Lone Star State.

Michigan offered following the hire of new cornerbacks coach Maurice Linguist and even though they got involved late in the process, the Wolverines were able to crack the top three with Texas and Texas A&M, which is considered the heavy favorite.

The Aggies own all of Taylor’s crystal ball projections right now and even though Michigan is pushing hard, Texas A&M is going to be hard to beat.

Still, the fact that Linguist got U-M on this list over Alabama, which is listed as “warm” on Taylor’s profile just shows what kind of impact he made. The longer this recruitment goes, maybe the better chance Michigan has of turning it around, but I wouldn’t keep my hopes up.
