The Michigan basketball team found itself in trouble in a couple of different spots Sunday at Wisconsin and at about the midway point of the second half, the Wolverines were down by double digits.

But Michigan basketball, playing for the first time in more than three weeks, rallied, thanks to an outstanding defensive effort, a great coaching effort and a toughness that championship teams always seem to have.

This was definitely the kind of game you need to win in order to win conference championships and Michigan basketball took a big step towards the Big Ten title Sunday and here are the grades:

Bigs

Hunter Dickinson: A-

While Dickinson didn’t play all that well offensively, he was very effective and delivered on my prediction that he would get back in double digits in scoring. He finished with 11 points, tore down 15 rebounds, and blocked five shots. He was 5-for-6 from the free throw line and his defense in the pick-and-roll game was really good. For whatever reason, he’s come back to earth scoring the ball inside but his impact was still felt on Sunday on both ends of the floor.

Austin Davis: B+

Like Dickinson, Davis wasn’t perfect and he was a bit of a liability on defense, yet also had some good moments in the post during his 13 minutes of action. The senior scored two huge buckets in the second half with Michigan trailing and while he probably doesn’t need to play more than 10 minutes a night, he’s always a reliable offensive option inside.

Brandon Johns: I

Johns played just four minutes on Sunday, so it’s hard to come down with a grade either way. But his play has been better as the season has gone on. He turned the ball over once and didn’t make much of an impact, but he will have his moments down the stretch.
