Michigan football has offered a slew of 2023 recruits down south in recent days and here’s why these offers are significant for the Wolverines.

It’s pretty clear that with the new hires on the Michigan football coaching staff, the Wolverines will be adjusting their recruiting strategy and we have already seen that in the state of Tennessee.

Yet, with other guys like Brian Jean-Mary staying on the staff, the Wolverines should be able to make a stronger push in places like Florida and Texas, which is also something we have seen.

And this push isn’t just about the recruiting class of 2022. The Wolverines are also getting involved with some elite recruits in the class of 2023 and not a moment too soon.

One of those prospects is a 6-foot-7, 315-pound offensive tackle in the class of 2023 by the name of Payton Kirkland.

"“Coach Moore and I spoke over the phone,” Kirkland told The Michigan Insider. “I was extremely excited. It means a lot to me. I’ve always been a big fan of Big Ten football. “It was my first time speaking with Coach Moore. I could see myself playing under him in the future, but I’d like to further our relationship.”"

The offer for Kirkland was is a big step for the Wolverines and co-offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore, who is also coaching the offensive line.

Moore is an elite recruiter and while there are questions about him coaching the offensive line, even though he played the position in college if he can land elite prospects on the offensive line that will make a huge impact.

And Kirkland is already getting tons of attention. His offer sheet is huge and Ohio State is listed as warm on his 247 sports profile, which means there is no time to waste.

The Wolverines have to get involved earlier with some of these recruits and that’s why this is a promising sign going forward.

Another important offer went out to Malik Muhammad this week, who is ranked in the top 100 by 247 sports in the class of 2023. He’s 6-foot, 170 pounds and ranked as the No. 6 cornerback in 2023 and Maurice Linguist making an early offer should help U-M’s chances although it will be a national recruitment.

Auburn, Miami, Florida State, Penn State and Texas are some of the other big-name programs to offer and more are likely to follow for the IMG product.

Another offer that went out at cornerback was actually in the state of Alabama and that went to Jahlil Hurley, a 6-foot-3, 170-pounder out of Florence, Alabama.

Hurley is not yet ranked by 247 sports but he’s sporting an offer from Alabama already, which tells you all you need to know. Florida, Auburn, Georgia are also in the mix and this is going to be another national recruitment and it was good to see U-M get involved as Linguist offered here.

These recruitments will all be ones to watch and it’s good to see both Moore and Linguist getting involved with elite prospects as Michigan tries to expand its reach in the south.
