Now that the 2021 recruiting class is wrapped up for Michigan football, here’s a look at our early offensive depth chart predictions for next season.

The 2021 recruiting class closed with a bang for Michigan football as the Wolverines landed a pair of four-star defensive tackles in the final week and surged into the top 10 of the final team rankings.

While the focus in the late period was on the defensive side of the ball, Michigan cleaned up on offense adding five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy, as well as Donovan Edwards, Xavier Worthy and a slew of talented offensive lineman led by top-100 recruit Giovanni El-Hadi.

All the players above were ranked in the top 100 of the 247 sports composite rankings and that’s a really good haul, but how many of them will see time early in their careers? Will McCarthy be the starting quarterback next season?

Only time will tell. But here are my first offensive depth chart predictions for 2021.

Quarterback: Cade McNamara, Joe Milton, J.J. McCarthy

It’s hard to predict when McCarthy will see the field for the Wolverines but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he started the opening game. For now though, I think Cade McNamara will do enough in the spring and the fall to win the job.

Some thought that Joe Milton was going to transfer and he could after the spring which is a vital time for all three quarterbacks. That’s when McNamara really needs to make his mark if he wants to hold off McCarthy.

Cade doesn’t have the arm talent that McCarthy does, but he’s an accurate passer and more than capable of leading Michigan football to a solid record next season. But, I have a feeling that when the Wolverines take on Ohio State, McCarthy will be the man under center.
