What’s next?

Despite the loss of four-star linebacker Tyler Martin last week, who decommitted from the 2022 class, the Wolverines are off to a really strong start.

With the commitments of Jones and Groves, Michigan football now has six pledges in the class, including two at defensive tackle and two in the secondary, which are the biggest areas of need.

While landing Jones and Groves is huge, Michigan is far from done in the secondary. In fact, when it’s all said and done, this could be a unreal haul in the backend if Linguist and company can build on this momentum.

Will Johnson, a five-star cornerback from Grosse Pointe, Michigan is probably the top priority in the 2022 class. He’s the top recruit in the state and the No. 8 player overall in this class.

Linguist has already started building a relationship with him, as has Macdonald. The interactions were so positive Johnson actually decided to push back his timeline to get to know them better and give them the chance to recruit him.

Dillon Tatum, a four-star athlete from West Bloomfield, who is being recruited as a defensive back right now, is another name to watch. Ron Bellamy, his former head coach is now on staff. Jaeden Gould out of New Jersey is another recruit Michigan is in a good spot with.

Add Johnson, Gould and Tatum to Groves and Jones, which isn’t that unlikely and Michigan football could be making real headway in the secondary in 2022.
