Michigan Football: 3 Thoughts on two 4-star commitments in 2022
Mo Linguist making an impact
As much as Michigan football needed a new defensive coordinator, the Wolverines needed to do a better job on the recruiting trail. That was an obvious goal when Jim Harbaugh hired new assistants to his staff and one of those, Maurice Linguist is proving him right already.
Linguist was hired from the Dallas Cowboys, but before that, he was a coach at Texas A&M and was an outstanding recruiter there, something that is translating very quickly to Michigan.
Groves and Jones weren’t even on the Wolverines radar a couple of weeks ago and once Linguist came in with an offer to play at U-M, that changed everything. With his connections in the South, recruiting in the secondary should get much better. He also played a key role in landing defensive tackle Ikechukwu Iwunnah out of Garland, Texas.
And from one of the recruits himself, here’s what Groves said about Linguist to 247 sports:
"“I’d definitely say my relationship with Coach Mo,” Groves said about his decision. “We talked a lot over the last week or two. This was the right move for me and my family and I didn’t want to waste any time making it.”"
Of course, new defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald and George Helow should be given credit to, but Linguist looks like a superstar on the trail and that’s going to mean good things for the defense.
