Michigan Football: Wolverines trending with 4-star safety in 2022
Michigan football had a tremendous national signing day and by the looks of it, the Wolverines are continuing to build on that momentum in the class of 2022.
New cornerbacks coach and co-defensive coordinator Maurice Linguist has definitely made an impact on the recruiting trail, but he hasn’t landed any commitments — yet.
But it looks like that will change soon as recruiting experts from Rivals and The Michigan Insider are predicting Michigan football to get the commitment of four-star recruit Taylor Groves.
Groves is ranked No. 242 in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is out of Cross Plains, Tennessee and was offered by Linguist on Jan. 27.
LSU and Notre Dame are other programs that have offered and Minnesota just offered him this week. But Linguist has clearly made an impact and while some programs like Groves as a receiver (he’s listed as one at Rivals) Michigan football clearly wants him as a defensive back.

His first crystal ball prediction was for Ole Miss, but today a slew of crystal ball predictions have come in with the Wolverines, all with a confidence level of seven or higher.
Sam Webb, Brice Marich and Josh Newkirk of the Michigan Insider all put in picks for the Wolverines on Thursday, along with Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports.
They aren’t alone though. There are also three Futurecast picks from Rivals projecting Groves to Michigan, making it seven total.
U-M is off to a solid start in the class of 2022 with Alex VanSumeren, a defensive tackle, as well as tight end Marlin Klein, defensive tackle Davonte Miles and offensive lineman Connor Jones.
Michigan did lose the commitment of four-star linebacker Tyler Martin not long ago, but that was somewhat predictable with Martin’s ties to Don Brown, who has offered Martin a scholarship at Arizona.
The addition of Groves would be huge though if he does commit to Michigan. The Wolverines didn’t land a single four-star defensive back in the 2021 class and Groves would give Michigan a top-250 player at a major position of need.
Linguist seems like he’s going to bring in some major additions in the secondary in this class and by all appearances, that’s going to continue. Looks like it will start with Groves.
