Michigan football‘s new co-defensive coordinator Maurice Linguist was just announced a couple of days ago and already, he’s making waves on the recruiting trail for the Wolverines.

It was apparent that his move was made with recruiting in mind and so far, Linguist is living up to his billing as a top-notch recruiter and he already has Michigan football in a position to flip a 2022 cornerback committed to Texas.

Jaylon Guilbeau was one of the first recruits Linguist reached out and extended a scholarship offer to and according to a tweet from Brice Marich of the Michigan Insider, it’s made an impact on the Longhorns commit.

Guilbeau is 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds and in the 247 sports composite rankings for the class of 2022, he’s ranked 134th overall, as well as 13th among cornerbacks. Yet, if you look at his 247 specific ranking, you will see that he’s ranked as the 61st player in 2022 and as a top-10 cornerback.

Guilbeau was previously recruited by Linguist when he was at Texas A&M and it sounds like he is going to be in contact with Linguist going forward, which means a flip seems possible.

Guilbeau is out of Port Arthur, Texas but he’s far from the only recruit in the Lone Star State on Linguist’s radar and another is Katy, Texas cornerback Bobby Taylor, another four-star recruit.

Taylor was offered on Tuesday and even though he has six crystal ball projections to Texas A&M, the 6-foot-1, 208-pound defensive back is considering pushing back his timeline, following the offer from Linguist and Michigan football this week, at least according to Marich. He’s ranked No. 208 in the 2022 class via the 247 sports composite and 25th at his position.

Linguist also reached out to five-star recruit Will Johnson, the top recruit in the state of Michigan for 2022 and the reaction was also positive. He’s also been in contact with former Michigan commit Myles Rowser, who is a four-star defensive back and related to Andre Seldon.

It’s been impressive to watch Linguist do his thing and truly, he’s offered more defensive backs than I can keep up with. He’s also a good football coach too and Jourdan Lewis, who played under him in Dallas last season, offered his endorsement to Sam Webb.

Over the past few years, Michigan hasn’t landed a ton of elite talent at the cornerback position and if the Wolverines are ever going to stand a chance against the elite offenses, that needs to change.
