Michigan football has been working frantically on the recruiting trail with the new additions on the defensive side of the ball.

Maurice Linguist has been offering defensive backs left and right. Mike Hart has been active on the offensive side of things and new defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald has been in touch with recruits too.

I also would expect some things to happen in the transfer portal for Michigan football before too long. But shifting to the class of 2022, a pair of top targets from in the state of Michigan released updated top lists and the Wolverines made both.

The first is a name Michigan recruiting followers should know well because it’s Myles Rowser, the former commit of U-M. Rowser, who is the brother of current Wolverine cornerback Andre Seldon, was pledged to the Wolverines before decommitting this summer.

The relationship seemed to be a little strained, however, Linguist got involved this week when he took over the cornerbacks coaching job and as co-DC, re-offering Rowser and it seems to have at least made some sort of an impact.

Still, the Wolverines haven’t done all that well with Belleville players in the past few cycles and that’s where Rowser is playing his high school ball after he was going to go IMG in Florida.

Michigan State also made the list, as did Penn State, Alabama, Notre Dame Kentucky, Florida and Georgia Tech. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound DB is ranked as the 10th-best safety in 2022 according to the 247 sports composite rankings and also is 124th overall.

Another in-state target put U-M among contenders

Like Rowser, Michael Williams, an outside linebacker out of West Bloomfield, has been a top target for the Wolverines throughout the recruiting process and they were able to crack his top 10 which was released  Monday too.

Williams is 6-foot-3, 220 pounds and the outside linebacker is the No. 6 recruit in the state of Michigan for the class of 2022, as well as the No. 20 player at his position. He’s ranked 259th overall.

Michigan State, Cincinnati, Arizona State, Kentucky, Maryland, Indiana, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Syracuse are the other contenders, but looking at that list I feel pretty good about the Wolverines chances to win this recruitment.

With guys like Cornell Wheeler, Makari Paige and Donovan Edwards joining the program from West Bloomfield, there was already a mini-pipeline and it should only grow after Michigan football hired former head Ron Bellamy on Sunday.

dark. Next. 3 Transfer portal targets for Michigan

Obviously, nothing is given, but Williams is the kind of in-state kid Michigan just can’t afford to miss on and the same could be said for Rowser, although since he already went back on his commitment, I don’t feel as optimistic, unless Linguist really turns things around.
