Hit the portal hard

While the length of the negotiations with Harbaugh may not have a ton of long-term ramifications, it certainly didn’t help the Wolverines in the transfer portal.

Harbaugh said on early signing day that Michigan was going to be active in the portal and hopefully that’s true. The Wolverines have made contact with some players in the portal, but with uncertainty at head coach and defensive coordinator, that wasn’t going to go far.

Now with Harbaugh in the fold and Macdonald expected to the be defensive coordinator, the Wolverines need to hit the portal, at least Harbaugh and one that makes a ton of sense is Treshaun Hayward, the Defensive Player of the Year in the MAC from Western Michigan.

Cam McGrone is going to the NFL and Hayward is a guy who could come in and start right away. But Hayward is far from the only target. The Wolverines need a couple of defensive tackles or at least one good one and could use help in the secondary and even at wide receiver.

Willie Allen has already been added as a graduate transfer on the offensive line and with the way the defense performed last season, Michigan football needs to seek multiple contributors in the portal and hopefully that happens sooner rather than later.
