More candidates for DC

Part of bringing Harbaugh back was re-vamping the coaching staff and that started with Brown’s dismissal. But now, the Wolverines need to get their defensive coordinator in place, especially if they want any chance of adding talent in the transfer portal.

Derek Mason, the former Vanderbilt head coach, came off the board to Auburn in the last couple of days, which has opened another possibility as Auburn DC and former interim head coach Kevin Steele has received interested from Michigan according to football scoop.

Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider ($) also reported that former Ohio State defensive coordinator and Rutgers head coach Chris Ash is also becoming a target. He isn’t expected to be retained at Texas and he would be another solid fit for multiple reasons.

Not only would he be familiar with Ohio State and the Big Ten, he could help recruit the state of Ohio and New Jersey — two important areas for the Wolverines.

Charlie Strong is another name that makes sense, especially with his connection to linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary.

As I’ve also said numerous times, adding Tim Banks from Penn State, Mike Hart from Indiana and a coach like Joe Moorhead would be a gamechanger.

We’ll see what happens in the coming days, but with the right coaching hires, Harbaugh and the Wolverines could have a very bright future.
