Michigan Football: 3 Thoughts on Jim Harbaugh’s expected new deal
Michigan football and Jim Harbaugh are now expected to agree to a five-year deal as reported by multiple outlets and here are three thoughts.
The Jim Harbaugh saga isn’t over quite yet. The head coach still needs to officially sign his five-year extension to return as Michigan football head coach but according to the Detroit News, he will sign the contract in the coming days.
Angelique S. Chengelis was able to confirm rumors about the contract through her sources and here’s part of what she wrote about the expected deal:
"“Two sources said it appears Harbaugh will remain as head football coach, but the deal had not been finalized or signed. Both said an agreement could be finalized in the next few days.”"
Chengelis is reporting that the agreement is five-year extension with an average base salary of $4 million with the chance to move it up with $8 million with the hitting of certain incentives. Here’s another excerpt from the Detroit News article:
"“The contract presented features heavy incentives for winning the Big Ten East Division, a Big Ten championship, reaching the national playoffs and winning a national championship. There also is a smaller buyout if UM decides to fire Harbaugh.”"
Rumors of a new deal between Harbaugh and Michigan football have been talked about for weeks and last week, it was said an announcement was days away.
Yet, the days came and went early this week and while it’s not clear if Harbaugh will sign his contract this week, he will be back and it appears the focus is now on finding assistant coaches to fill out the staff for next season.
And with that in mind, here are three thoughts focusing on what this contract means (if signed) plus more on potential coordinator hires.
