Michigan Basketball: 3 things we learned in win over Minnesota
Dickinson is out of this world
It’s really incredible how much Dickinson has changed Michigan basketball this season. It’s not all him of course and the Wolverines have a tremendous collection of talent and pieces that just fit well together.
But Dickinson is the biggest reason why this team is 10-0 and 5-0 in the Big Ten. He’s become the superstar that Michigan has needed and with Franz Wagner and Isaiah Livers as the second and third best players, this team is insanely good.
People thought Liam Robbins might be able to contain Dickinson or at least battle with him, but right away it was clear that it was no contest. Dickinson toyed with the Gophers and was 12-of-15 from the floor. He also grabbed eight rebounds and was 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
In Big Ten play, Dickinson was supposed to slow down, but his play has only gotten better with more minutes as a starter and only once has been held under 19 points. His worst game in Big Ten play was against Penn State where he ONLY had 13 points and 15 rebounds.
The name Mitch McGary has been tossed around but that’s an insult to Dickinson. Mitch was an incredible talent but he was never as consistently good as Dickinson has been and frankly, it’s hard to remember any Wolverine starting their career in this fashion.
In five Big Ten games Dickinson is scoring 21 points, grabbing nine rebounds and making 76 percent of his shots. His defense is also improving and he absolutely has put himself in the mix for Big Ten Player of the Year.
