Joe Moorhead is the OC U-M needs

As much talk as there is about Harbaugh and possible candidates for defensive coordinator, there is a lot of ton of chatter about the offensive side of the ball and one name keeps coming up: Joe Moorhead.

Moorhead is a well-known offensive mind in college football and prior to being the head coach at Mississippi State, he was the offensive coordinator at Penn State and even worked with Josh Gattis.

Balas and Rivals have reported (subscription required) that adding Moorhead is something Michigan wants to do and it could happen this week along with an extension for Harbaugh. It’s not guaranteed though but it makes a TON of sense.

For starters, all indications are that Josh Gattis will be back. That was clear in recruiting. And one way that could happen is to get Moorhead and give him the title of co-offensive coordinator with Gattis.

Josh can coach wide receivers, but Moorhead could call plays and maybe coach quarterbacks. Either way, it would allow Michigan to add a proven offensive mind without losing Gattis and all the recruits he’s been able to attract.

It would be the perfect marriage and add another former head coach to the fold, which is something Michigan football fans would have to be excited about.
