Franz is finding himself
Obviously, much of the talk is going to be about the play of Dickinson, but quietly, Franz Wagner is starting to play like the player we thought he would be in the preseason and that’s a tremendous sign for the Wolverines.
After scoring just over eight points a game during the first six outings, Wagner has scored 39 points in the last two Big Ten road games. Franz has made eight 3-pointers this year and five of those makes have come in the past two games.
At the start of the year, he seemed hesitant and wasn’t shooting with confidence. In fact, he was averaging less than seven shot attempts per game.
That’s not nearly enough for a player of Wagner’s ability, but he’s been much more assertive and now that he’s starting to shoot the 3-ball well, watch out, because his ability to score inside is also elite as he’s making 65 percent of his 2-point attempts.
And if Wagner can play this way with consistency, combined with everything Dickinson is doing, this offense might be as good as any in the conference and that includes Iowa.
