Michigan Basketball: 5 takeaways from Wolverines 7-0 start

Hunter Dickinson is the Big Ten’s best freshman
What Hunter Dickinson has done on the basketball court through seven games is truly remarkable. I think many people knew he would have an immediate impact for this Michigan basketball team, but I don’t think anybody saw this coming.
You could make an argument that the true freshman has been Michigan’s best player so far this season. Dickinson is second on the team in points, 1st in rebounds, 1st in blocks, and 2nd in shooting percentage. He’s doing all of this while only ranking 5th on the team in minutes per game.
Here are his stats per game this season:
vs BGSU: 11 pts 8 reb
vs Oakland: 19 pts 4 reb
vs Ball State: 12 pts 11 reb
vs UCF: 14 pts 7 reb
vs Toledo: 18 pts 7 reb
vs Penn State: 20 pts 7 reb
@ Nebraska: 13 pts 15 reb
Not only has Dickinson been Michigan’s best freshman and most consistent player, he’s been the best freshman in the conference as well. He is the clear cut front runner to win Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
Dickinson hasn’t been a one dimensional player for the Wolverines either. He has shown flashes of being a plus defender, a solid rim protector, and an elite post passer. One question mark for Dickinson coming into this season was his stamina. He showed that shouldn’t be an issue as he played in 33 minutes last game against Nebraska.
When senior Austin Davis went down with an injury, Michigan’s depth at center took a hit. Hunter Dickinson has answered the call and has been nothing short of spectacular for Michigan basketball so far.
