There were more rumors about Jim Harbaugh and the NFL as Jay Glazer had some updates that had to do with the Michigan football head coach.

All the talk surrounding Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh is getting old. The rumors aren’t helping the program and you would hope a resolution would be right around the corner.

Yet, that’s been the hope for weeks now but this negotiation or whatever you want to call it just continues to drag on. All along people have insisted that Harbaugh would either return to Michigan with an extension or he would go to the NFL.

A few weeks ago, Jay Glazer reported that there was no interest that he had heard about NFL teams wanting to hire Harbaugh.

But earlier on Sunday, Glazer reported on Fox Sports (via the Bleacher Report) that an NFL team was asking the 49ers about his tenure there. Here’s an excerpt:

"“Glazer corroborated that Sunday when he said that an unnamed team reached out to the San Francisco 49ers to ask “what it was like” to work with Harbaugh, who was the head coach of the team from 2011-14.”"

I don’t know how noteworthy it is that a team or teams are doing their homework on Harbaugh, if the report is true. NFL teams are probably considering Harbaugh and keeping an eye on what’s going on at Michigan, but doing homework and offering him a job are two different things.

That being said, Harbaugh played for the Bears and Chargers and both teams could have openings. The Chargers also have a young talented quarterback in Justin Herbert and Harbaugh did well on the West coast with the 49ers and Stanford.

All the evidence points to a Michigan return

Despite this, all of the signs point to a return, especially the decision to let go of Don Brown. There just doesn’t seem to be any reason for it if Harbaugh isn’t coming back.

Both sides may be slow playing it but it seems as though the parameters of a deal have been discussed between Harbaugh and Michigan AD Warde Manuel, so hopefully, they can get something done and Michigan can move forward.

There wasn’t any rush to get a deal done around signing day and I don’t think there will be a rush now. But the longer this goes, the more likely it has to be that Harbaugh won’t return, even though his departure still seems like a pretty remote possibility right now.
